Spoken Word LIVE: Humanity & Media
Your Story, Your Power, Your Platform
What's up, everyone? Joshua T. Berglan here, with a recap of a powerful **Spoken Word LIVE** broadcast. Today, the word drawn from the bottle was **HUMANITY**, leading to a profound conversation that I believe is crucial for every single one of us.
The Unbeatable Edge of Going Live for Content Creators
One of my favorite things about doing lives is the incredible efficiency. My production time, which was already good with editing, has gone from two hours down to about twenty minutes. After this broadcast, I can convert it into a blog, publish it, and even send it out in my newsletter in under an hour. This process is a game-changer for content creators.
If you have a message you want to get out, but also need to maximize your time and effort, I highly recommend going live. It saves immense time compared to pre-recording, where you might say the same thing fifty times over, read from a teleprompter, or get bogged down in editing. My goal is to use technology wisely, then step away, allowing for a more natural and heartfelt creation process.
You can find tons of free resources, tips, and even most of my published books on my website, joshuatberglan.com , to help separate your content from the pack. My platform is where 95% of my content lives, and I encourage everyone to build their own platform to become less dependent on social media.
The Unexpected Word: Humanity
Today's word, drawn live, was **HUMANITY**. It immediately brought to mind how far we've seemingly drifted from our original design, despite all our modern conveniences. I reflected on how organic food, once rejected for its "bruises," is often healthier – much like the pains and wounds we experience in life. These very bruises offer us the opportunity for a true human experience.
For so long, I, like many, ran from pain and suffering, believing it was bad. Yet, it was precisely these difficult experiences that helped me become the person I was created to be. The demons we try to avoid can sometimes be our best teachers; the hardship, pain, and struggle we avoid are often the very things that set us free.
Embracing Pain & Truth: Lessons from an Impossible Journey
My own experience, after 20 years of addiction and subsequent heartbreak, led me to my knees with a physical ailment that took away my ability to talk and be around people. This was the most painful experience, revealing true heartbreak, betrayal, isolation, and loneliness. It was like being locked in isolation in jail again – nowhere to escape.
I learned hard lessons: you can't outrun God, and the more you try, the more painful the consequences. Pain brings us closer to our humanity, showing us what we're made of. You can't outrun your giants; it's part of our humanity to overcome them. Once we conquer our own giants, we gain the amazing gift of showing others how to conquer theirs, giving our suffering even more purpose.
Every giant and obstacle is designed for us to overcome. The path to purpose, though emotionally challenging, is a straight path forward. My closest connection to God and the truth of who I am came during periods of intense isolation. Here, I learned the joy in suffering – that it's not a bad thing, but a human experience that leads to life's greatest blessings.
While modern conveniences offer endless escapism (virtual reality, social media, dating apps), these distractions can separate us from our true selves and our original design. Using technology as a tool, rather than being enslaved by it, is key. Sometimes, the most human thing we can do is to defy what most humans do.
Media: The Vehicle for Healing, Purpose, and the Creator's Economy
Media became the vehicle for me to be heard when I was silenced, and to heal. It helped me get comfortable with speaking my truth publicly, even through my own mental health struggles. This was unknowingly preparing me, and now others, for the world to come.
We are in the **Creator's Economy**. As technology advances and jobs shift, the opportunity is to return to our basic design: to create. Media is the vehicle to deliver our natural gifts and talents. My entire media organization was built around my testimony of overcoming, which led to books, movies, and countless opportunities. Now, I teach others the same, showing that even without traditional education or finances, the power of media is in everyone's hands.
My passion for media deepened after witnessing the George Floyd situation in Minneapolis. Learning about systemic injustices, gentrification, and redlining revealed how many underserved groups have been silenced. While mainstream media often pits us against each other, we can use the power of media to create our own narratives centered around truth and storytelling. We can't defeat the "rotten media" with opinions; we defeat it with our stories, our truth, and our testimonies of how we overcame.
Your Story: The Ultimate Superpower for Creativity and Connection
Media is not just about revenue streams; it's about purpose. If we are all living in our unique purpose, we don't have time for hatred or judgment. Instead, we celebrate differences, fostering true creativity. Truth is the ultimate superpower for creativity, offering endless stories and ways to share them.
Media can deliver love and compassion, bringing communities and families back together. A family that creates together will stay together. The ability to leverage media to share your truth and gifts will be essential in this changing world.
Truth will attract your tribe. We can never truly get what we want in life, or from God, without being honest. I found love and strong relationships with friends and family by being honest about my "ugly, scary truth." Those who judge you will do so regardless, so stop worrying about others' opinions and start loving yourself for who you are.
Part of humanity is going through the full human experience. Embrace the pain, find gratitude in it, and you will discover a freedom no one can take from you. Finding joy in suffering is the most amazing human experience and makes you incredibly resilient.
The Vision Forward: 500 Media Empowerment Centers
My mission is to build **500 media empowerment centers** globally. These centers will serve underserved communities, helping to end poverty, break cycles of addiction, and give hope to the hopeless – from human trafficking victims to those silenced by the justice system. It's about giving people an opportunity to live in the purpose they were created for, and a vehicle to make sense of their pain and suffering.
