This is an independent journalism and publishing site. It carries original investigative reporting, broadcasts, podcasts, books, essays and teaching material, produced from Cameroon and reported across Africa and beyond.
Editorial standards and corrections
Reporting on this site is evidence-led. Where an investigation relies on documents, data or named sources, those are identified in the piece. Opinion and analysis are distinguished from reporting.
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Email joshua@joshuatberglan.com with the page and the specific claim. Substantive corrections are made on the page itself, dated, and noted rather than quietly deleted.
Content and copyright
Unless stated otherwise, all written work, broadcasts, recordings, photographs, frameworks and designs on this site are owned by us or used with permission, and are protected by copyright.
What you may do

What you may not do

This site discusses addiction, mental illness, HIV, trauma, abuse, incarceration and recovery. It does so from lived experience and reporting. It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional.
Nothing here creates a clinician–patient, lawyer–client or adviser–client relationship. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis service in your country.
Business, media and publishing material on this site — including workshops and frameworks — is educational. We do not guarantee any commercial, audience or financial outcome from applying it.
Contributions and payments
You may choose to support this work financially. Contributions made through this site are processed by Google under Reader Revenue Manager; donations to the Cameroon mission are processed by GoFundMe on its own platform. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
- A contribution supports independent journalism generally. It does not buy influence over what is reported, nor does it create an editorial obligation to you.
- Refunds and cancellations for contributions are handled through the platform that processed the payment, under that platform’s terms. If you have a problem, email us and we will help you resolve it.
- Where a contribution is recurring, you may cancel at any time through the same platform.
