Beyond Talk: How Do The Dream is Building Nigeria's Future

It's easy to be skeptical. It's harder to ignore real impact.

In a world saturated with headlines about global challenges, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, even skeptical. We hear endless talk about change, but witnessing tangible action can feel rare. What if there was an organization that quietly, diligently, and effectively turns ambitious goals into on-the-ground reality? Meet Do The Dream Youth Development Initiative (DTDYDI).

For those who question if one organization can truly make a difference, and for those who have never heard of their work, this is a look at a powerhouse of change in Nigeria—a UN Backed, ECOSOC accredited organization with credible, boots-on-the-ground impact.

From Local Action to Global Recognition: The DTDYDI Mission

At its core, Do The Dream’s mission is to "build voices to be heard for inclusiveness, inspiration, innovations, and inventions." But these aren't just words. They are a framework for action, guided by the acronym SINCERE: Sacrifice, Innovation, Nurturing, Credibility, Empowerment, Resilience, and Excellence.

The results speak for themselves. Since 2005, DTDYDI has impacted the lives of over 29,600 students. In 2023 alone, their programs reached hundreds of young people:

    • 409 girls and 279 boys were directly impacted through various initiatives.
    • 600 leadership books were donated to fuel young minds.
    • 79 young leaders were mentored through targeted leadership training.
    • Programs like the "Girls in Energy Project" empowered 301 girls to showcase innovative STEM projects, such as generating electricity from limes and transforming waste into wealth.

A Seat at the Global Table: Our Partnership with the United Nations

Credibility is paramount, especially for a skeptic. DTDYDI’s work is not just impactful; it's globally recognized. In 2023, the organization was granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) . This isn't just an accolade; it's a testament to their transparency and effectiveness, placing them in a trusted position to participate in global discourse.

This recognition is the fruit of years of dedicated collaboration. DTDYDI is a key partner in UN initiatives, including launching the SDGs Leadership Resource Center —a pioneering e-library initiative featured on the official UN website. They are an official member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and work closely with partners like the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Nigeria and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to localize and accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Heart of Our Mission: The Leadership Library

One of DTDYDI’s cornerstone projects is the Leadership Library. The vision is simple yet profound: to bridge the vast reading and learning inequality between public and private schools in Nigeria and to ignite a passion for leadership in young minds.

"We believe a single book can change a destiny. Our Leadership Library is more than a room with shelves; it's a launchpad for future leaders, thinkers, and innovators."

In partnership with the Life Development Centre, Chicago , DTDYDI established its first SDGs Leadership Resource Center at Ayedeere Ajibola Senior High School. They equipped it with laptops, desktops, internet access, and hundreds of books. But the work is far from over.

Our libraries are in constant need of resources to grow and thrive. To continue fighting educational inequality, we need to upgrade more school libraries and fill their shelves. Every book, every computer, every bit of support directly empowers a student to "do the dream."

A Network of Purpose: Why We Collaborate

DTDYDI understands that meaningful change requires a united front. We actively seek out and foster partnerships with other NGOs, non-profits, and government bodies around the world. Our work is amplified through collaborations with dedicated partners like the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CoNGO).

This collaborative spirit ensures that resources are used efficiently, impact is magnified, and our reach extends to the most remote and underserved communities. We invite other organizations to join us in this mission.

Be Part of the Solution. Take Real Action Today.

Skepticism fades in the face of action. Whether you are an individual wanting to make a tangible difference or an organization seeking a credible partner, here is how you can get involved:

Your financial support directly funds scholarships, provides books and computers for our libraries, and fuels our skills training programs.

    Other Ways to Support:

    • Partner With Us: If you represent an NGO, non-profit, or corporation, let's collaborate to create a larger impact.
    • Amplify Our Voice: Share this story. Follow us on social media and tell your network about the real work being done.
    • Volunteer Your Skills: From mentoring to technical expertise, your time and talent are invaluable assets in empowering youth.

Change isn't just a dream. At Do The Dream Youth Development Initiative, it’s a daily practice built on credibility, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to youth. Join us, and let's build the future together.
